She explains how they need to gain racing licenses for each class of vehicle, in order to legally partake in the races and challenges of the respective class. Tess herself is also a contestant in the championship, and enrolls the player to dampen the competition.Īt the club, Tess introduces the Player to the viewers of Solar Crown. On the way to the club, Tess explains one of the racers withdrew, leaving an open position for the player. Tess berates the Player for arriving late she considers firing them, but seeing as they are a car enthusiast, she has second thoughts, and asks them to escort her to the Sant Antoni de Portmany club, in exchange for entering them in the Solar Crown. The Player character is a poor valet driver working in Ibiza for Tess Wintory, host of the 2011 Solar Crown, a highly popular racing championship. The plot revolves around the Player's customizable avatar, who is offered the chance to enter a series of tournaments and progresses through the game in order to eventually become the winner of the Solar Crown by defeating a number of NPCs (non-player characters) in various races. The vehicle subcategory is noted in the form of a number the lower the number, the higher the quality. The game features three main vehicle categories, with each vehicle also belonging to a subcategory depending on quality – A for asphalt cars (A7 to A1), B for Off-road vehicles (B4 to B2), which is a new feature in TDU2, and C for classic cars (C4 to C1), with an additional M category for motorcycles (included in DLC). Good try but drop that crap DRM and spend some time to sort out the PC version. This article possibly contains original research. Unfortunately I need to give this game a 4/10 rating. I think if they keep this route for a TDU3 they should get Codemasters to assist with car design and dynamics. Give PC some more loveĪll in all this game has a lot of potential. Too much driving around to find way points or challengesįeels like a ported game straight from console. The support is from Atari is not up to scratch. Little add ins like having your hair cut or buying a house is very cool 2 days later when I checked the calls were resolved but I still can’t play the game! I logged 2 tickets with Atari who I have to say replied quite fast but it feels that they did not read what I typed my problem is and just started asking general support questions. Unfortunately I am unable to play TDU2 since I formatted my PC because of issues and the lovely DRM now does not accept the steam game to authenticate as it wasn’t de-activated. And the women’s voice will drive me up the wall! The voice acting is seriously crap, no other word for it, it’s just crap. The online community seemed to be quite big and you are able to add friends, start a club and join clubs (in-game). This was tedious but after that the racing starts and that was quite a lot of fun. You have to do a few driving lessons to get a driver’s license in order to compete in certain events. The cars don’t feel real, driving feels a bit lagged but it feels like the old Test Drive we played in the olden days. It’s a lot easier to use the GPS to get to where ever it is you want to go and using the menu and setting goals will speed things up again. The driving around gets a bit tedious till you start fiddling with settings and figure out how the GPS works. It has a wide open world for you to explore, find wrecks, enter car showrooms, buy clothing and get a haircut. I liked the concept and it works quite well. TDU2 is a mix of good old Test Drive and the Sims. If you like to start the game up and click a button to start racing then I’m afraid it’s also not for you. If you are a hardcore Simulator driver then this game is not for you. The download finished and the game was installed, I could not can’t wait to try it out! Problem, you have to create an account on the site! This is an inconvenience but ok let’s get it done. Logged on to Steam and bought TDU2 not knowing what to expect. Those where epic games and if you chat to people who grew up in the same decade as me then they will most probably agree that Test Drive was EPIC! I bought this game because I remembered how much fun Test Drive 1 and 2 turned out to be on an IBM Olivetti 386 with a CGA screen in the 80’s. I really wanted to give a good review on Test Drive Unlimited 2 but they failed me badly and you will see why…… Before I even start, let me put it this way.
